Case #1
Check the angular vibration displacement on the front end of the crankshaft and or damper, to avoid stress, strain related problems.
One speed channel measurement.
The test result is the crankshaft front end angular vibration in degree vs. Orders and rpm

As #1 with 2 speed channel measurement, so the torsional dampers angular vibration deflection can be calculated. Only applicable when the damper mass is accessible.

Case #3
Measurement of Crankshaft front and the Flywheel torsional vibration simultaneously is a very powerful setup, it gives lots of information about the Engine running behavior.
The basic result of this set up is the Crankshaft angular deflection. In addition to that Flywheel rotational speed fluctuation and the angular acceleration can be calculated and this parameters are a very basic measure of the Engine running behavior.
This setup can be extended with microphones, accelerometers, cylinder pressure sensor and so on for more detailed analysis.
